Betty Berry
BETTY GENTRY BERRY, 88, passed away November 23, 2019, in San Antonio. A family graveside service for Betty Gentry Berry will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2021, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home. She will be buried in a family plot alongside her parents (Martin and Claryce Williford Gentry) and maternal grandparents (James and Alsophine Simpson Williford).
Betty Alsophine Gentry was born in Abilene, on February 14, 1931, and adopted as an infant by Martin and Claryce Gentry of Anson. She grew up in the towns of Paducah and Anson and graduated from Anson High School and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. She married Robert Lee (Bob) Berry on February 28, 1953, at the First Baptist Church of Anson, and they spent their working careers in the towns of Andrews and Midland. The Berrys raised two daughters, Robbie and Diann, born in 1954 and 1955. After Betty retired as an elementary school teacher, the Berrys moved to Ruidoso, NM to enjoy retired life. Later they moved to Granbury, and then to San Antonio in 2014, where Betty died of health complications at the age of 88. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio and the Texas Retired Teachers Association.
Betty is survived by her husband Bob of Pearland, daughter Robbie (Dorsey) Rushing of Pearland, daughter Diann (Alan) Mitchell of Donna, grandchildren Dillon (Ashley) King of Midland, Jay (Becky) Whisnand of Surrey, B.C., Canada, Rachel (William) Fesler of Pearland, and Wade (Tara) Whisnand of Nashville, TN, and eight great-grandchildren.
