Mary Jo Williams
Mary Jo North Williams of Yukon, Oklahoma passed from this life on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the
age of 98 years old. Jo was born on June 28, 1923, in Aspermont, TX to William Taylor North, Sr and
Mattie Aycock North. She grew up in a home with 7 sister and 2 brothers. She met Harold Williams in
Peacock, TX and continued to correspond with him when he had to move to California for work. Harold
asked Jo to marry him in a letter, so she boarded a train to California, and they were married on
September 12, 1942 in Oakland, CA.
Following the war, they moved back to Texas and bought a restaurant where Jo worked as a waitress
while also caring for her two small children. A couple of years later, in 1947, they sold the restaurant
and moved to Hobbs, NM where they lived for 54 years. Jo was an active member of Taylor Memorial
Baptist Church where she loved to sing and travel with the Jubilee Choir. She always enjoyed spending
time with her sisters. She and her sisters made it a priority to set aside time every summer to spend
with each other. She often shared many fond moments and memories of the times that they spent
together. Jo loved her immediate as well as her extended family and placed a priority on those
relationships.
When she moved to Yukon, OK to be near family, she became a member of Yukon Church. Although she
was unable to attend much of the time, she was proud to call it her church.
She was proceeded in death by her father and mother. Her husband of 72 years, her grandson Bryon
Williams, and 9 siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Donna Wallace and husband Charley of Chandler, OK, and son David
Williams of Snyder, OK. Her grandchildren, Kimberley Krueger, Dana James, Julie Woods, Lance
Garrison, David Williams, Jr, and Chase Williams. Many great grandchildren and several great-great
grandchildren.
