Thomas Earl Isbell

Thomas Earl Isbell, 84, passed away on December 6, 2021 in Monument, Colorado. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Anson, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home. A private service for family and friends will be at Mount Hope Cemetery following the memorial service.

Thomas Earl Isbell was born in Portales, New Mexico on May 19th, 1937 to Thomas Andrew and Bessie Mae (Standefer) Isbell. He graduated from Seminole High School in Seminole in 1955. In 1959 he graduated from McMurry University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He attended Drew University in Madison, New Jersey and graduated from there in 1964 with a Master of Divinity degree.

While attending McMurry University Thomas was a member of Ko Sari ('56 pledge class), the Debate Team and the Forum. He met and married his wife, Marnette Bushell on May 31st, 1958 in Abilene, TX. They were married for 63 years. The couple had two children: a son, Mark Edward Isbell, who was born in Toms River, NJ in 1962; and a daughter, Jennifer Jane Isbell, who was born in Arcadia, CA in 1965.

Thomas was a Pastor for the United Methodist Church until 1968. He worked for a Transamerica company managing group life insurance for Occidental Life until 1980. Thomas served in the Anson community as the Justice of the Peace, Jones County Tax Assessor/Collector and Mayor. He was a leader in the United Methodist Church, The Boy Scouts of America, Anson City Council, Anson Chamber of Commerce, Anson Meals on Wheels, and the Lions Club (including the position of District Governor). He was an avid reader, enjoyed working in the garden (often in a suit and tie), collected stamps and coins, enjoyed writing grants and cared deeply for his family and community.

Thomas is preceded in death by his wife, Marnette Bushell Isbell; his brother, Jerry Lynn Isbell from Greeley, Colorado; his father Thomas Andrew Isbell; and his mother, Bessie Mae Standefer Isbell.

Thomas is survived by his son, Mark Isbell and his wife Kimberly of Monument, CO; his daughter, Jennifer Daggett and her husband Alan of Joshua, TX; his grandchildren Bree Land of Burleson, TX, Carson Daggett of San Marcus, TX, Alisha Giles of New Braunfels, TX and Candice White of Del Rio, TX; his great-grandchildren Grant Land, Leighton Land and Zaeliegh Land from Burleson, TX; Tristan Giles and Lillian Giles of New Braunfels, TX; and Dylan White and Hudson White of Del Rio, TX.
